Twin Arc spray gun is a process that uses an electric arc to melt the wires. The molten metal is then atomized with compressed air to create a spray stream that applies the coating onto the surface being coated.
Features of twin arc spray gun-
- Anti-corrosion coatings can be applied by arc spray.
- Twin Arc spray gun systems are commonly considered to be easy to operate and handle and also to automate.
- Metallizing gun has a full range of arc spray systems for hand-held and fully automatic/robotic applications.
Twin Arc Spray Gun process
The twin wire arc spray process (TWA) utilizes metal in wire form materials. Heating and melting of the wire material occur when two electrically opposed charged wires, comprising the spray material, are fed together in such a manner that a controlled arc occurs at their intersection. The Twin Arc spray guns are atomized and sprayed onto the prepared workpiece by jets of compressed air or gas.
The molten metal was reduced by jets of compressed gas. a device was built utilizing two wires, insulated from each other, made to advance and intersect at some point. Generally, the wires were given a difference of electrical potential of about 89 V that caused the wires to melt, and; in the presence of a gas stream, the coating was produced.
Two guides direct the wires to an arcing point. After this point, a sand blasting nozzle directs a stream of high-pressure air onto the arcing point where it atomizes the molten metal and sprays it to the workpiece. Power of about 450 A can spray over 50 kg/hr (110 lb/hr). Electric arc spray systems are offered that wire by either air or an electrical motor. The system pushes the wire to the gun while others pull the wire into the arc. Control units include voltmeter and ampere meters and air regulators. A twin arc spray gun does not require the use of oxygen and/or combustible gas. It has determined the ability to process metals at high spray rates.
This concept experimented with electrical heating for spraying. In that case, One pole was a graphite crucible that is loaded with the consumable, the other one is a carbon rod. An arc was struck between the crucible and the rod causing the metallic consumable to melt the metal and flow through an orifice.
